So, no their name isn't based on the movie, but the book from which the movie took its name. City of God, the Pop/Hip Hop band based out of Ft. Lauderdale, brings their progressive neo-soul flavor to every gig they play, and now we send them happily to you. They're unique blend of hip-hop, R &B, neo-soul, pop, and rock have come together get you up and moving, and they do it all without so much as a single signed contract. These guys do music the way it should be done: in the street, on the corner, in the back of dark house parties.

The name of the band springs from the notion that the soul is ever in conflict between the material and spiritual desires in the human psyche, and the band lives up to the conflict: on the one hand, City of God is a completely grass-roots, wild, DIY party band who could care less whether EMI or Arista called them next week or in the next decade. On the other hand, their sound cuts in with most bands that have been able to MERGE live instrumentation with spinning and overlay it with live, tight vocals.

The word on the street is that if you want to really get to know these guys, you have to hear them live. When you do I dare you to try to stand still. We bet good money you won't be able to resist moving feet, flail arms, and shake ass.
