Bulletfist

Synopsis -
The spirit of a murdered ninja named Kim AKA Mystic (Maria Romero) returns to her docile lover to seek revenge upon her killer. Will James (Renda Writer) be able to find the courage to defeat the Phoenix Star (Jean LeGrand), and avenge the death of the woman he loved?

Bulletfist was a first of many kinds. It was the first film project completed and screened. It was the first film directors Dawn Dubriel & J.Vinazza ever worked on together. It was shot with Dawn Dubriel's Sony VX2000 in 2006 for the Miami 48 Hour Film Project. It was also the first film Underlab Studios submitted to the esteemed Miami competition.

The first day of the competition JV and Dawn had went to Miami to draw the competitions requirements. They were:

Character Name:

Al or Amy Cordova
Circus Performer

Props:
Clipboard

Line of Dialogue:
"Step aside, we have to get through!"

Nervously the Dynamic Duo draw their genre and at first they picked: "HOLIDAY FILM"

"NOOOOOO!!!!" Dawn and J exclaimed. A tough decision had to be made. Do they Keep what they have and suffer the consequences, or
Discard their selection for a wild card genre risking getting a worse fate such as WESTERN? They opted for the latter and as luck will have it, they got

Genre: MARTIAL ARTS

This was great news having access to a talented team of real Martial Artists such as Grand Master of Lost Legacy, Jean LeGrand AKA Master Juice and Self: Direction 7 writer/fight choreographer Chopp Devize. Master Juice was ready for the challenge however Chopp was only available for a short time the next day.

This was quite the challenge. Luckily J recruited long-time friend and local poet Renda Writer to assist in Screenwriting. It turns out, Renda has never written a screenplay.

At the time of the production, J. Vinazza asked Liza Trainer to help with the project. She sent Vanessa Rolfe with a couple of Liza's props.

Vanessa was a big help having previous film experience she too also knew how to write a screenplay. Between the three writers they came up with a story that would work.

Although Vanessa provided some writing, the majority of the Film was written by J. Vinazza creating dialogue based on a book entitled "The 4 Agreements" by Miguel Ruiz.

As soon as the story was written Renda was cast as the Lead character of James, a confused man who receives a visit by the spirit of his murdered girlfriend Kim AKA Mystic.

Master Juice was casted as Phoenix Star, a name deriving from MJ's alter ego Lord Phoenix. He was to play the antagonist of the story.

Shooting took place right where it was written - Reverse Polarity Studios which has been working closely with Underlab Studios since their inception. Immediately the last scene was shot first, both by Dawn Dubriel then J.Vinazza.

The next scene was with the Psychic Amy Cordova, played by one of the writers Vanessa Rolfe. Vanessa bought a great performance although the space and lack of lighting made it difficult to shoot for Dawn.

After wards, J.Vinazza took Maria and Master Juice to a nearby alley behind Reverse Polarity to shoot the last scene of the evening.

The next day and night, Dawn shot Chopp Devize by a lake behind her own house. The writers had forgotten to include the needed line for the competition, so Dawn had Chopp improvise and say the line at this time. Chopp played Life Wolfskin who also happens to be the main character in J. Vinazza's Self: Direction Seven

No sleep and 48 hours later the crew wrapped production and barely made it in time. The initial piece was nothing to brag about as both directors will tell you. The sound was out of place and the color correction was still in its rough stages, but Underlab still was proud to be part of the event.
